2012 Take Pride in America® National Awards Nomination Information

Presented annually, the Take Pride in America® National Awards recognize individuals, groups and organizations for outstanding stewardship projects or awareness efforts involving federal, state and local lands and waters.  Winners are chosen by a selection committee, and are invited to an awards ceremony held in Washington, D.C.

Nominated projects and efforts must embody the goals of Take Pride in America, which are to:

Instill in the public an appreciation for and awareness of federal, state and local lands, facilities, and natural and cultural resources.

AND

Encourage an attitude of stewardship and responsibility in caring for these lands, facilities and resources.

General Eligibility

The awards program is open to individuals, groups and organizations that have contributed to the protection and/ or enhancement of America's public lands.  Examples of these include public parks, forests, grasslands, reservoirs, wildlife refuges, cultural and historic sites, local playgrounds, and other recreation areas.

For all awards categories, nominations must reflect actual, measurable accomplishments achieved through volunteer service.  To be achieved through volunteer service.  To be eligible, projects must be "on the ground" activities, rather than advocacy.

Nominated projects and efforts must have been started and/ or completed between May 1, 2011 and April 30, 2012.

Categories

All nominations must designate only one category for consideration.  The selection committee reserves the right to consider all nominations for alternative award categories.

Judges will evaluate nominations by category and select those individuals or groups whose projects or events best exemplify and support the goals and mission of Take Pride in America.  Specific categories are defined as follows:

            Individual – a single person

Youth/ Youth Group – an individual our group of young people under the age of 18

Non-Profit Organization – a civic group or 501(c)(3) organization

Federal Volunteer Event/ Program – a federal agency, project, or program

Local Government Event/ Program – a city, county or otherwise local government event, project or program

State Event/ Program – a statewide event, project or program

Public/ Private Partnership – a partnership project between a government agency and a private business or corporation, youth, civic or non-profit organization

Nomination Process

All nominations for the Take Pride in America National Awards must be submitted by 12:00 p.m. noon, EST on Friday, July 13, 2012.

Nominations must be submitted through the online application available at www.TakePride.gov.  For persons unable to submit nominations via the online form, please contact the Take Pride in America office directly at 202-208-7586 to make arrangements.  Nominations submitted in any other format without prior approval will not be accepted.

Anyone familiar with the nominee and their volunteer service may submit a nomination, and should make the individual, group or organization aware of the nomination.  Self nominations are accepted.

Upon completion of the online nomination form, the nominator will receive an email confirming the receipt of the nomination within one business day.  If this confirmation email is not received, the nomination was not successfully received, and you will need to contact the Take Pride in America office at 202-208-7586 or at Lisa_Young@ios.doi.gov.

Selection Process and Awards Ceremony

Nominations will be reviewed and winners selected by a selection committee appointed by the Take Pride in America staff.

Recipients of the 2011 Take Pride in America National Awards will be honored at an awards ceremony held in Washington, D.C on a date to be determined this fall.  Winners and other guest are responsible for their own travel accommodations.
