Take Pride in America® Hosts National Get Outdoors Day Cleanup in Anacostia Park

(Washington, D.C.) --
This past weekend, Take Pride in America® hosted a cleanup event at Anacostia Park, in commemoration of Great Outdoors Month and National Get Outdoors Day.  The morning cleanup was held to clear away downed trees and debris from the local boat ramp, in order to clear the way for a group of several dozen disadvantaged youth to go canoeing later that day for National Get Outdoors Day.

Volunteers at the event spread out and picked up trash and tree limbs from up and down the boat ramp, dramatically improving the launch area, and allowing the local children to launch canoes.  Volunteers were in attendance from Take Pride in America, the American Recreation Coalition, and other partner organizations.

“Take Pride in America is proud to support National Get Outdoors Day” said Katie Loovis, Executive Director, Take Pride in America.  “It’s encouraging to see children and volunteers of all ages join together to clean up our shared land.  National Get Outdoors day is a fantastic vehicle to get children outside for some outdoor physical recreation and volunteer service.”

Take Pride in America is a national partnership program aimed at increasing volunteer service on America’s public lands.  It is the goal of Take Pride to empower volunteers from every corner of America to maintain and enhance our natural, cultural, and historical sites.  Take Pride encourages citizen stewardship through an innovative public awareness campaign and an interactive website that showcases volunteer opportunities at natural and cultural sites.
