Take Pride in America Schools
|

Secretary Gale Norton recognizes Carmel River School as Take Pride's first Take Pride in America School. Principal Jay Marden received a certificate in May 2005.
Why Take Pride Schools?
Our public lands cover more than one in every three acres across the Nation. Every day volunteers spend countless hours protecting and improving those lands. The Take Pride School program involves elementary, middle and high schools in creating a new generation of volunteers to act as stewards over our public resources.
What do Take Pride Schools do?
Take Pride Schools accomplish 2 volunteer projects every school year. Projects may be done by the school, a classroom or a club. Projects must be on public lands (public schools included!), promote Take Pride's message and benefit public use of public land. Email project pictures and write-ups to Take Pride.

- Build birdhouses for habitat areas
- Create or improve wildlife habitat areas
- Maintain or build trails
- Guide visitors at a public lands facility
- Monitor water quality in public rivers
|
Why become a Take Pride School?
Partnering with Take Pride helps schools enhance their students' volunteer experiences.
Publicity Projects can be published on our website and in our newsletter, In Touch with Take Pride.
National Awards Schools can be nominated to receive one of our National Awards, presented annually at a ceremony in Washington D.C.
Networks Schools enter a network with other Take Pride partners - cities, corporations and more. Many partners sponsor events, helping schools host top quality volunteer projects.
